A new bill says employees have the right to take unpaid leave for Town Meeting Day, as long as they give at least a week's notice.

It sounds good, but I have some real doubts that in these economic times that someone could forego a days pay to go to Town Meeting.  This year's Town Meeting here in Fairfax was one of the better attended meetings in recent years, but had it been on a normal work day would probably have been much smaller.

Also, I believe it is a real rare where an employer would not allow an employee to attend Town Meeting.

The best solution seems to be to hold the meeting when the least amount of people are working and vote on important issues by Australian Ballot
