The victim in the tragic pickup truck accident in Grand Isle had many ties to Fairfax.  His mother, Mildred Leonard was born here as were his grandparents, Wesley and Jennie (Ward) Leonard.  His grandparents are buried here in Sanderson Corners Cemetery:

Andrew R. Burnum, 66, of Grand Isle died unexpectedly Tuesday April 29, 2008 in Grand Isle as a result of an auto accident.

Andy was born February 19, 1942 in Burlington the son of the late Rupert J and Mildred Leonard Burnum.  He served his country during the Vietnam era in the US Navy.  Following his discharge from the military, he worked with his father’s limousine and ambulance service in Rhode Island.  As a person who loved the outdoors, Andy occasionally enjoyed fishing in the lake.  He later owned a Bait Shop as well as Burnum’s Trailer Sales and Service in South Hero until retiring at the end of 2004.  Andy was well known and enjoyed driving for C.I.D.E.R. in the islands.

He is survived by a sister, Nancy Mazzoni of Greensboro, NC and several cousins.  He was predeceased by his son Andy Jr. and his parents.

As per Andy’s request, there will be no visiting hours, however a funeral service will be held on Monday May 5, 2008 at 11 am in the Minor Funeral Home located on Route 7 in Milton.  Burial will follow in the Grand Isle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that any contributions in Andy’s memory be made to either South Hero Rescue, P.O. Box 365, South Hero, VT  05486-0365 or to Champlain Islanders Developing Essential Resources (C.I.D.E.R.) P.O. Box 13, South Hero, VT  05486

Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral Home of Milton
