MARY MARGARET FAY FLETCHER — Mary Margaret Fay, 74, of Fletcher was called home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2005. She was born in Fletcher, April 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Betsy Sloan. When Mary was younger, she worked at the Giant and Ames department stores and was also employed at Union Carbide. While her family was growing, she was always by her husband Francis' side, whether they were working on a household or automotive project, hunting, going to the races, or just taking a ride in the countryside together. She raised two active sons, who were the center of her life. As she got older she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her many friends. Mary came to look forward to the senior dinners where she met her friend John Nolan. She subsequently became quite close to John's family, particularly enjoying spending time with his sons. In all her years in this life, she never missed a week without attending church, her faith ever guiding her life. Mary's gift to us was her warmth, humor, her infectious laugh and giving spirit. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Francis C. Fay; her sister, Theresa Young; brother, Alton Sloan; and brotherin-law, Lincoln Burleson. She is survived by two sons, Reggie Fay of Monroe, Ga., and Floyd Fay and his wife Susan Fay of Fletcher; grandchildren, Jessica Fay and Joshua Fay; stepgrandchildren, Claire Feldman and Gus Feldman; one sister, Ruth Burleson; her brother, Lawrence Sloan and his wife Olive; two brothers-in-law, Benjamin Young, and Sidney Fay and his wife Janice; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Sloan. Mary was especially close to her niece, Sandy Zeno. She also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Contributions in Mary's memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer fund by mail at The Komen Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75265-0309, or by phone at (888) 888-3317. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the A. W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated of Mary's life in St. Luke Church, Huntville Road, Fairfax, Tuesday, May 3, at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Lawrence Ridgley. Inurnment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by John D. Workman of the A. W. Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.
