ELIZABETH M. (WEATHERWAX) PETERSON

COLCHESTER — Elizabeth M. “Liz” Peterson, 33, of Colchester died unexpectedly on June 4, 2008. She was born in Burlington on April 30, 1975, daughter of Andy W. and Marion C. (Garcia) Weatherwax. Liz graduated from Colchester High School in 1993. She received an associate degree from Champlain College in 1995. She served in the U.S. Air Force from August of 1996 to August of 2000; she served in Operation Southern Watch in Kuwait and met her husband, Phillip, in Kuwait in 1998. They were married in Minneapolis, Minn., on March 5, 1999. The couple returned to Vermont to help care for Liz's father. He died in 2003. Liz continued her education at Champlain College and earned her bachelor's degree cum laude in 2007. She had planned to teach elementary school. Liz had a wonderful sense of humor; she was the ultimate wit. She was a loving and selfsacrificing person, taking care of both her father and mother, and she always put others above herself. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and friend, and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Phillip Mark Peterson; her daughter, Eleanor “Nora” Marion Peterson; her mother, Marion Weatherwax, all of Colchester; two sisters and their spouses, Sandra and Lee Baker of Cornish, N.H., and Christine and Rick Lindner of North Vernon, Ind.; a brother and his wife, Joseph and Nancy Weatherwax of Fairfax; her brother-in-law, Mark Burbo of Milton; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mark and Pamela Peterson of Minneapolis; two sisters-inlaw, Sara Corwin and her husband, Chad of Lakeville, Minn., and Rachel Peterson of Minneapolis;her dear friend, Spring; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her father, she was predeceased by her sister, Sharon Burbo, in January of this year; her nephew, George Weatherwax; and her niece, Angel Lindner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, in Holy Cross Church. Interment will follow in New Mount Calvary Cemetery, where Liz will be accorded full military honors. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 6, in the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 North Winooski Ave., Burlington. Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors.
