MARY C. (ANTALEK) KROPELIN
JEFFERSONVI LLE — Mary Clare (Antalek) Kropelin, 55, passed away at her home on Sunday, July 13, 2008, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born on March 9, 1953, in Schenectady, N.Y., daughter of the late John and Kathleen (Gallagher) Antalek. The most important aspect of Mary's life was her family. She was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her two fine sons, Adam and Nick. Mary attended innumerable soccer games, concerts and other events in support of her boys. She was a devoted wife and best friend to her husband, Bill, for 33 years. Mary was a dedicated educator in the field of biology. Few things brought her more joy than knowing she had presented a complex lesson in a form her students could easily understand. Mary was awarded the title of Outstanding Vermont Teacher in 1999 for “Excellence in Teaching and Devoted Service to Vermont Youth.“ In the final months of her life, Mary served as a mentor at Cambridge Elementary School. In her spare time, Mary was an avid gardener and birder. She enjoyed walks in the woods, making greeting cards and solving sudoku puzzles. Mary regularly gave of herself to her community, supporting numerous nonprofit, church, and school events such as raising money for the Lamoille Area Cancer Network and making baked goods for the Copley Ambulatory Care Unit. This trait continued even while she fought a terminal disease. In this and so many ways, Mary was an example for us all. She is survived by: her husband William K. Kropelin of Jeffersonville; her two sons: Adam D. Kropelin of Webster, N.Y.; Nicholas J. Kropelin of Taunton, Mass.; three brothers: John W. Antalek Jr., and wife Candace of Illinois; Raymond J. Antalek and wife Teresa of California; Thomas P. Antalek of California; her sister Linda N. McCormick of Massachusetts. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, her colleagues and students at St. Albans Town Educational Center. The family would like to extend a special thank you to our medical team at Copley Hospital and Lamoille Home Health and Hospice for the heart felt care and attention Mary received during her illness. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home — Fairfax Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Cambridge, concelebrated with the Reverend Charles R. Danielson Pastor of St. Mary's and St. Thomas Churches and the Reverend Dan Jordan. Burial will follow in the family lot in Mt. View Cemetery in Cambridge. Contributions in Mary's memory may be made to either the Lamoille Area Cancer Network, P. O. Box 38, Lake Elmore, VT 05657, or to the Lamoille Home Health and Hospice 54 Farr Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661. Arrangements are by John D. Workman, A. W.
