A baking supply company is moving out of Vermont. Hillcrest Foods in Fairfax is moving to Saratoga, New York in October. The company supplies flour - sugar and other baking goods to restaurants and retailers throughout New England. The President of Hillcrest Foods says he is moving the company because the new factory in Saratoga is a lot bigger and will allow the company to expand its customer base. The baking supply company employs about two dozen people. Only a few of them are relocating.

Back in the late 1940s and early 1950s, Reggie Barkyoumb started this business as he delivered eggs in his station wagon around the area.  In later years he & Joyce built their house and chicken house up on the Huntville Road and ran it for many years.  Their sons took it over later and I am not quite sure just when they went from eggs to foods.  At present, I think it is run by Chris Barkyoumb.  Another business leaves Vermont.

There were some good times and there were some bad times through the years - One of the bad times was back in 1973 when Reggie & Joyce lost their buildings along with most of their chickens.  I do have a photo of it along with all the friends and neighbors in the area who came to help them salvage 18,000 of the chickens in my photos of the Tornado of 1973:

Thought I would go up and get a few photos of Hillcrest Foods before it moved its operations.  I will attempt to get some photos and stories from Joyce & Reggie about the early days of this longstanding business that started many years ago as The Hillcrest Poultry Farm.
