RENE J. GRENIER

Fairfax - Rene J. Grenier, 78, of Orange City, Fla., passed away on Oct. 7, 2008, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren after a courageous battle with cancer.

    He was born on March 17, 1930, in St. Ignace de Stanbridge, Quebec, Canada, son of the late Ernest and Marie-Anne (Chabot) Grenier. On Aug. 26, 1950, he married Joyce M. Stewart in St. Damian Catholic Church in Bedford, Quebec.

    Rene was a farmer, entrepreneur and restaurant owner of Rene’s Café in Burlington for 17 years; retiring from IBM in August 1990.  He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, snowmobiling, gardening, golfing, bird watching, playing cards, country music and dancing.  He was a member of the Eagles Club, Elks Club, Moose Club, St. Jean’s Club and 4th degree Knights of Columbus.

    He lived in Orange City, Fla. with wife, Joyce, and enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards and Bocce, cooking for and assisting neighbors with handyman tasks, watching baseball and sharing stories and laughter at the Poker Table.  He spent summers in Vermont with his children and grandchildren.

    Rene is survived by his wife, Joyce M. Grenier of Fairfax; one sister, Paula Supers and husband, John, of Woonsocket, R.I.; eldest son, Patrick and wife, Lorie Grenier, and children, Patrick Jr., Nicholas and Kaylyn of Milton; middle son, Michael Grenier and son, Zachary, of Fairfax, and Michelle Walker and sons, Thomas, Jacob and Nathaniel; youngest son, Marc Grenier of Burlington and fiancée, Celeste Perron; and daughter, Marie-Anne (Grenier) Lescalleet and husband, Tim, and children, Nolan, Parker and Arianna of Southborough, Mass. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews in Canada, as well as lifelong friends, Cecile Poirier of Milton and Paul Cyr of Middlebury. He was predeceased by brothers, Guy, Roger, Paul, Romeo, Marcel, Jean-Louis; and sisters, Ernestine, Annette, Jacqueline and Gisele.

    The family is appreciative of the support and kindness of friends during this difficult time and wishes to thank Dr.’s Sanders, Ferguson and Roland, as well as their staff for all that they have done.

    A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church, Main Street, Milton, with Father John Feltz, celebrant.  Burial will be held later in St. Jean, Quebec.

    Memorial Contributions to be used locally may be made to the Vermont Cancer Center, 89 Beaumont Ave., Given 213 E, Burlington, Vt.  05405.

    Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday evening, Oct. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. with Vigil Prayers offered by Fr. Feltz at 7 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.
