(Three young men from Fairfax are on The St. Albans Fire Department - they are Justin Hayes, Jesse Flemming and Jordan Hayes.)

The St. Albans fire department has a history that spans 100 years. History -- Justin Hayes and his family are a big part of.

"Many of the firefighters that we employ full time as employees -- their fathers, uncles, and other relatives are currently or were past firefighters," Hayes said.

But all that could soon change. He says a city-appointed committee suggests the city council look at making changes to the full time fire department. Those changes could include making more firefighters take part time shifts.

"There is a potential some services could be cut," he said.

Hayes has been with St. Albans city for three years. He says it could cut services including fire education for schools and building inspections.

"I think it's unfortunate that they're looking to cut a public agency when the goal is to increase public safety," firefighter Josh Cox said.

Cox says he was shocked at the news of a possible change -- but there was some good news -- adding an ambulance to the firehouse to hasten response time.

Before any of these changes become official -- the city council will have another meeting. The fire department says they'll definitely be there. They hope to have a presentation for the council.

The next city council meeting hasn't been scheduled.
