Went to Burlington today to do some Grocery Shopping for the upcoming holiday.  On my way home saw a strange sight.  A girl was standing on a box outside a half open window, quickly looked back at the cars on the road, mine being one of them and then slithered into the house through the half open window.

Seemed strange to me, and as I drove by the house saw a car parked half in the back of the house.  Kept driving down the road for a couple miles and decided, I think I will go back and get the license number on that car in the yard.

Drove back and now that I think of it, foolishly drove in the yard so I could read the number plate on the car.  Took my pen and checkbook and wrote the number of the license down as I don't trust my memory.  As I was doing this a girl came out of the house and got in the car.  Decided I had better get out of there, however she had to wait for me to get out of there first.

Didn't waste any time and headed on towards Fairfax.  The car came out of the driveway and came in the same direction as I did.  I did keep my eyes open and finally it must have turned off some place.  Had it kept on following me, I probably would have stopped off at Rainville's Garage where I knew there would be a few rugged young men that could handle the situation.

Got home and told Maryann about it as I had planned to wait and see if there was a robbery reported, but she suggested I call the State Police. So I did and apparently one of the troopers checked things out and the individual was not supposed to be there and had indeed broken into the house.  Unknown what was going on, but ends up I have to give a statement, so if you see a State Police Cruiser at my house, Maryann and I are not having a domestic brawl.

For the life of me, can't understand how someone thinks they can break into a house in broad daylight, 50 feet from a heavily travelled highway and think nobody is going to see them.

Good for you!
Just today I too noticed a "slow" moving full-size van (not a minivan)driving unusually slower than most traffic.  Because of what I do at home, often I have an excellent view of the road in two directions.  Within 15-minutes I saw the same green full-size van moving along the road, again!  My first thought was, I hadn't seen a van like that in a long time with the price of gas and if I were going to rob someone, that would be the vehicle I would use.  Interesting ... that today you noticed a break-in and today there was an "odd" van killing time in the area.  We all need to keep our eyes open and yes, you may have to go out of your way to file some paperwork.  It will be worth it because they will discover this is an involved community and not a bed-room community!  Good job Mr. Raymond.

Brian Farris

I told my wife that a husband is like a fine wine; he gets better with age. The next day, she locked me in the cellar.

Trooper Marchand had made an appointment to see me yesterday morning between 8:30 and 9:00.  Got a call from the State Police Dispatcher around 5 minutes to 9 that he was running late.  Thought, Gee, thats better than most service people, as they give you an estimate that covers 4 or 5 hours.  I asked him what his first name was and he said Adam.  A very nice young man, who was brought up in St. Albans and still works for the State Police in this area.  (OOPS, I guess he was here to interview me, not me interview him)

Anyhow, as things worked out, I did write out what I observed and what details I could remember.  After I was finished and signed the statement, he did give me some information on the situation.  Apparently the girl and some other people were there at the house earlier and then they all left.  She apparently doubled back and broke into the house.  Don't think she took anything, but of course she didn't have much time as I went by the house when she was breaking in, and I came back within 5 minutes.  The suspicion is that she might have been looking for drugs or money.  The registration number on the car was the key thing, coupled with my description of the person that identified the individual that was driving the vehicle.

I told Adam that I probably would not have called if Maryann hadn't told me I should.  He said it is wise to call as quickly as possible, with what information you have and thanked me for my help.
