A few years ago about the only place that I had heard of that couldn't get television was the Trailer Park at Bolton Flats.  They sit down between some mountains and people just could not get television.  Finally the group got together and went out in the middle of the field and put up some television antennas and the last time I went by, you can look from the Interstate and see them there today.  I believe they may not be used now with the coming of The Satellite Dish.  With Digital TV coming, many of those places that were receiving snowy TV, with the switch to Digital will get nothing as from what I understand, Digital TV does not have as long a range.  I suspect when Canada switches over, many of those people now getting the Canadian Stations will no longer get them.

One great thing about Digital is, if you get it, it is clear as a bell, however, otherwise nothing.  Below is a story that was on Channel 3 about one of the areas where Cable has been discontinued.  If we could only get local access on our Satellite, I would say the Satellite Dish is the way to go.

Henry, you should be able to get local stations through your satellite.  We always had the cheapest package through Dish Network, then added the locals for about $5 extra a month. About 3 years ago, I called to cancel our subscription and was told that because I own my equipment, I could reduce my package to receive only local stations if I wanted to- for only $4.95 a month!  This has been great, because we get all the locals, a bunch of useless channels (QVC, etc), and there are 2 "special" channels every month. It's been a great deal, but the resolution is only 480i, not 1280i like the digital over-the-air broadcast.  Plus, I can still order movies if I want to!
