Richard Warren had mentioned to me that there were a couple trees leaning on the garage at the Old Hubbert Place across from St. Luke's Church.  Apparently a West wind just pushed them right over.  Fortunately they aren't big trees.

Why didn't the roots go down further?

I'm not sure what kind of trees those are, but know they aren't pines.  If I see Sam Hudson around sometime, will check with him as he is very knowledgeable.

They look like Cedars.

Henry    This story on the old Hubbert place reminded me of the contributions made to Fairfax, and particularly to BFA, by Mr. & Mrs. Hubbert in the 50's -70's era, and also the amazing athletic & academic skills of their children, Kim, Louise, Eddie and John. Eddie, by the way, played midfield in Soccer ( after we started the sport  up again in 1962 ) and he entered UVM in the fall of 1966 with the intention of playing the same position . However, the Varsity Coach, Hal Greig, needed a goalie and asked Eddie to try it for a couple of games. He played four years and ended up All-Yankee Conference at that position his last two years at UVM.
If that house could talk, what stories it would tell about that family and their adventures !!!
