Town Office Hopping Last Night

Board Of Civil Authority met for a Tax Abatement and to purge the check list - The check list is purged once a year as the Board of Civil Authority each sit there with a copy of the existing check list. The names are read off one at a time, (all 3,000+) from a 75 page document and when one of the board members recognizes a name that is no longer in town for some reason or other, a note is made by the Town Clerk who then attempts to contact the person for a clarification of their status.

Also at the meeting, a new Board Of Civil Authority Chairman was elected and that was Peter Fitzgerald, who is filling the vacancy left by the resignation of Dale Bellows recently.

The meeting started at 7 p.m. and it was nearly 10:30 p.m. when I got home.

In an adjoining room, there was a meeting of the Development Review Board going on.

So, if you saw a lot of activity at the Town Office last night, that is what it was all about.
