ST. ALBANS — Four area restaurants have been broken into in the last three weeks, Captain Jay Sweeney of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office confirmed this morning.
Harley D's and Bayside Restaurant on Lake Road were broken into on the same night. Katie's Restaurant and Pie in the Sky, both located in the Highgate Commons Plaza, were broken into on a separate night, according to Sweeney.
The break-ins have occurred in the early morning hours.
"They haven't gotten a lot. They've done damage trying to get into safes and registers," Sweeney said, who contacted this morning did not have specific dates for the incidents.
Similar break-ins have occurred in other areas, including communities outside the county, and the Sheriff's Department is working with other law enforcement agencies to determine if the break-ins are connected, Sweeney explained.
He recommended restaurant owners not leave cash in the building and make certain their surveillance systems are working.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Department at 524-2121.
