ELLA BOISVERT GREENE
ESSEX JUNCTION- The beautiful soul of Ella Greene was released from her 97½ year old earthly body, to claim her promised eternal body on Nov. 9, 2009. She was born in Valcourt, Quebec on May 11, 1912, to Paul and Alice Boudreau Boisvert, as the village church bells were ringing. Her entire life was a reflection of that special beginning. At age 6, her family moved to Vermont and she entered school knowing no English, but rapidly became fluent. When a teenager, she met her future husband, Howard Greene, in the Baptist Church on Congress Street, in St. Albans were they were both members. They married in 1936 and became parents of twin, Stanley and Sylvia, in 1937. Howard predeceased her in 1980. They purchased a dilapidated house on Parsons Avenue in St. Albans and turned it into a cozy home, where she resided for 65 years. During that time, she and Howard developed and operated the well known "Greene's Garden Houses". It was there that she got to use her native tongue again, as numerous campers from Quebec came every summer for over 20 years to have Ella make her beautiful window boxes and pots for them. They also grew Easter Lilies and Poinsettias for local florists. Music played a huge part in her life. She could sing harmony, singing French hymns with her parents at age 3. She grew up to have a beautiful solo alto voice which was in high demand for weddings, etc. She became a volunteer choir director for the Baptist Church which lasted 40 years. Her life was all about "GOD", family and community, following the examples of her parents. She was predeceased by a sister, Hortence Boisvert Greene and a brother, Theodore Boisvert. She leaves her son, Stanley and his wife Edith Greene of Fairfax, Vermont and Myrtle, Missouri and her daughter, Sylvia and her husband Bill Boccio of Essex Junction, in whose home she was cared for the last eight years. Five Grandchildren: Gregory Wood of Concord, New Hampshire, Mary Wood Catlin of Essex Junction, Vermont, Dennis Green of Swanton, Vermont, Deana Greene Brown of St. Albans, Vermont and Chris Fortin of Missouri, three great-grandchildren, Samantha Brown of St. Albans, Vermont, Leah Fortin of Missouri and Brandon Robert of Concord, New Hampshire. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and a dear sister-in-law, Dorothy Boisvert of St. Albans, Vermont. She was predeceased by a greatly loved niece, Jane Boisvert Scranton, a nephew, Russell Greene, a brother-in-law, Maurice Green and a sister-in-law, Olive Green Loomis. All those who knew her were blessed. A service of remembrance will be announced next spring.
