(Jane was the sister of Raymond Howard who used to run the store where Nan's is with his wife Betty, as well as the sister of Edna Bailey)
Jane Flora (Howard) Decker (March 26, 1918 - December 4, 2009)
St. Albans - Jane Flora (Howard) Decker, 91, a resident of this area since 1999 and former longtime resident of Georgia passed away late Friday, December 4, 2009, following a brief illness. Born on March 26, 1918, in Fairfax, Vermont, Jane was the daughter of the late Delbert D. and Winnie (Minckler) Howard.
Her younger years were spent working on her family farm in Fairfax, until her marriage to William Decker on December 3, 1947. She continued working on their farm in Georgia. After this she spent many years babysitting. She relocated to St. Albans in 1999.
Jane had a great love for horses. Especially work horses, always a great story teller, about her days spent in the fields haying or in the sugar bush gathering sap with her team.
Survivors include her son, Newell H. Decker of St. Albans; her daughter, Bernadette Wyman of Waterbury Center; her granddaughter, Lorelei Wyman of Waterbury Center; her sister Ila Smalley of Middletown, Connecticut; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Clayton and Cheryl Woods. In addition to her parents Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, on December 4, 1991, son-in-law, William Wyman in May of 2009; her twin brother, John Howard and brothers, Raymond and Fay Howard and sisters, Frances Gillette, Edna Bailey and Helen Yandow.
Jane’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of her family at the Decker family lot in Georgia Plain Cemetery.
