30 YEARS AGO TODAY


The 1980 U.S. Olympic Gold Medal winning hockey team





Friday February 22, 2010, the US hockey team defeated the Soviet Union, 4-3. They then had to beat Sweden two days later to win the gold medal.

I will never forget that day, i was running around screaming after the game. could not beleive they won. Mike and Mike had a great interview with Mike Eruzione this morning, he was telling how many people he still hears form 30 years later. everybody remembers where they were. was the greates moment in sports ever.

Even with teh Bucs winning the Superbowl -- The US beating the Soviets is still the best sporting event ever ---

Couple of interesting points on this game --

1.  I actually could have gone to the game -- but didn't have the cash -- another guy went in place
2.  I was attending UVM at the time -- Watched the game at the Radisson Hotel --- They had a Big Screen and drink specials -- never forget it ---
3.  UVM Hockey Star was a friend of mine,  Craig Homala.  Small Kid from Minnesota -- set scoring records back in '78, '79 and '80  he was an alternate for the Olympic Team.  Someone got hurt and he was called up for the tournament -- he said .. nahhhh I'm doing well with UVM right now,  no need to mess this up now -- Can you imagine his decision AFTER everything that happpened
4.  I got married on date - -celebrating 18 years of marriage ---

I thought we had to beat Norway after Russia.

I had been to other olympic events that year, but watched this on television.

Yeah, they probably did. It was late, and I had Sweden in my head, and didn't fact-check. Sorry.

Actually, it was Finland that the boys beat to win the Gold Medal.
