I personally received a few e-mails regarding the lack of coverage of the Fairfax 11 & 12 Year Old Little League in The Burlington Free Press.  One of the things repeated in several of them was the fact that perhaps no one told them.  Actually, if it had not been for Chris Santee posting it on Face Book, FranklinOne and My Forum, I would not have known about it.  I don't believe we have a local reporter here for The Free Press.  I know that I do hear from some of the Staff at the Free Press on occasion, who happen to run across something on my forum.

I do know that the information on this forum comes from you folks who post or report it and I am very grateful for that.  Keep up the good work.

The Messenger has been real good with up-to-date info on the team.

Henry....I'm sure Mike is correct that the Messenger is doing a good job publicizing Fairfax's Softball Team with well deserved stories. In my recollection, that particular newspaper has always done well by our town. However, the argument used by the FP is one that always makes it into the excuse column whenever one questions their coverage of events outside Burlington and Shelburne and has been that way for years . In fact, however, they seem to be always aware of any negative happening in the towns outside of the Burlington area, and these do make the daily sections , leaving one to assume that a negative story sells papers ( which the FP and any other newspaper wants to do ) whereas a positive story about small town happenings doesn't. In addition, the FP Sports section throughout the calendar year ignores school events or simply posts scores , unless a Burlington area team is competing with that school ( BFA/ St. Albans vs Rice for example gets some ink, but the same BFA team playing Missisquoi gets a one line entry under the Vermont Scoreboard ). Growing up in Central Vermont, my classmates and I were spoiled by the coverage of local schools from the Rutland Herald or the Barre Times-Argus and I , for one , came to expect more from our " local " paper, as the FP likes to say.
No matter what, the team and it's coaches are doing well, especially when one considers the large population that RI and Conn have to choose from and it seems to me that , typical of Fairfax , the whole event is looked upon as being experienced by " our kids and family " , very reflective of our town who takes great pleasure in such things....whether our youngsters win or lose.
