I see your point.  They are however not having to wait or look for medical records, retrieve xrays or wait for them to be delivered on you and this helps decrease the decision process time for care based on your history or results.  I agree more nurses would be wonderful!  Although I must say each time Mom and Dad have gone to FAHC they have had excellent care and I am so thankful!

I have a big problem with doctors and electronic meedical records.  They spend 5 minutes talking to you and 25 minutes typing.

I agree that in the long run EMR will be good for everyone.  However it's the initial startup that's going to be the problem.  As you know I work at NMC and we are going live with our system 10/1.  We will not have anymore nurses than usual on staff which kinda sucks.  The first time a patient comes in after go-live will be the most tedious for them and for us as the staff.  After that however things will move quickly because info will stay in system and we will just update it each time a patient visits.

The first time we have to go through each and every question and it's a long long long form for admissions.  Most is just a click which will be a little faster but we do have some typing to do.  So we are guessing about 2 hours for each admission to get the initial paperwork, I hope census is low the first few days otherwise we are going to be crazy busy!!

I have a feeling I will be helping with admissions those first 2 weeks because I'll be a superuser at night and if it's busy - they will put me to work instead of just being there for any problems.  Oh I can so picture this now!!  GOD GIVE ME STRENGTH
