WENDELL T. “STUB“ WELLS
JEFFERSONVILLE — Wendell Thomas “Stub“ Wells, 94, a lifelong resident of Jeffersonville, passed away with his loving family by his side late Friday evening ,Oct. 13, 2006, in The Manor Nursing Home in Morrisville. He was born in Waterville, on June 21, 1912, son of the late Ralph and Gladys (Thomas) Wells. He married Lorraine Dodge in Burlington, on April 19, 1935. She predeceased him on Aug. 8, 1999. Stub was a dedicated bookkeeper for many years, retiring from Bell Gates Lumber Corp. in Jeffersonville. He was also past director and treasurer of Smugglers Notch Skiways for many years. He graciously gave back to his community in many ways, devoting much of his time to volunteer communty service as a proud Mason of the former Warner Lodge 50, now the Mount Mansfield Lodge 26, F&AM, receiving his 70-year pin in 2003, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite and Mount Sinai Relics. Stub was also a member of the Johnson Chapter 65 OES, with many years of treasured membership. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Green Mountain 3210, of Jeffersonville and a member of the Second Congregational Church of Jeffersonville. He enjoyed taking all kinds of photos over the years and would gladly share his slide show collection of Cambridge history with all, including the Cambridge Historical Society, where he held an honorary position. He enjoyed visiting with friends or strangers alike and as a “great ambassador of kindness,“ would often meet people he knew wherever he went. He will not only be a great loss to his friends and family as a dedicated and loving father, grandfather and proud great-grandfather, but also to the community and Masonic fraternity he loved so much. He will be deeply missed by all of those fortunate enough to have had the true pleasure in their life to know and love him. He is survived by his loving daughter, Mary Coburn and her husband Robert of Jericho; a brother Charles Wells of Morrisville; three grandchildren, Dianne Sapra and husband Varun of Plano, Texas, Jennifer Coburn of Roanoke, Va., Robbie Coburn and his wife Michelle of Essex; his great-granddaughter and great-grandson, Kady and Ethan Coburn of Essex; a sister-inlaw, Thelda Warren of Cambridge ; a brother-in-law, Clark Dodge and his wife June of Jeffersonville; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his friends and neighbors at Mann's Meadows in Jeffersonville. He was also predeceased by a brother, Edson Wells Visiting hours will be held Monday, Oct. 16, in the A.W. Rich Funeral Home Fairfax Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. in the Second Congregational Church of Jeffersonville with the Rev. Peggy Tooker officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Jeffersonville Village Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Stub's memory to Lamoille County Home Health, 54 Farr Ave., Morrisville, VT 05661, or Second Congregational Church, P.O. Box 188, Jeffersonville, 05464.
