Hi Henry,

What a difference a day makes.  The first four pictures were taken yesterday afternoon and the last two were taken this afternoon just below the Rainville Farm above the High Bridge.

Many years ago (now) I believe, an ice jam far worse than this took out the old iron "low"  bridge that used to cross over to Georgia Mtn. Anyone have any pics/tales of that? :-)

I believe on at least one occasion the ice moved the old bridge enough to close it untill the bridge could be repositioned

Mirjo, If you click on the following link you will see one photo I put up some time back of one of the Ice Jams at the Old Georgia High Bridge - Mike & Margie Cain have the photo that came from their mother's photo album:

My Nana took me on the old bridge to walk on and check out before it actually took out the bridge.  She was so cool!

That old photo brought back memories! I remember the ice being outrageous, it was quite a site. The ice that jams up now, doesn't appear to be nearly as much as it used to be. Maybe I'm just older (and bigger) I don't know. Maybe the old iron bridge was lower than the concrete one that's there now? Whatever the case, the ice used to be a huge problem. Quite a force of nature. :-)
