Vermont State Police are investigating the shooting death of a 42 year-old woman in Georgia on Tuesday evening.

The name of the victim and the location of the death was being withheld pending notification of the next-of-kin, Vermont State Police spokeswoman Stephanie Desaro said.

State police in Franklin County said they received a call at 5:46 p.m. about an unresponsive woman. Emergency responders confirmed the woman was dead, Desaro said.

Criminal investigators were summoned and the body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington for an autopsy today, she said.

They sure are keeping very quiet about this - There was nothing on the noon news about it.  Georgia is not a very big town and strange that nobody seems to even know the location.  They don't usually keep that quiet.

As is appropriate when these things happen - no names or addresses - sad enough situation without further publicity.
