Back in 2007 Peter Hebert crashed his plane in a meadow near Summitview Street.  Today a plane owned by him crashed in North Carolina, however, the two people killed in the crash have not been identified.  He had a second crash up in Morrisvile also.  If you would like to see photos of the plane crash in 2007, click on the link below:

Richlands, North Carolina - May 6, 2011

A plane registered to a Vermont dentist has crashed in North Carolina.

A sheriff says the single-engine plane went down near a rural airport in Richlands, killing two people onboard. The identities of the victims were not released, pending notification of their families.

The FAA says the plane is registered to Peter Hebert of Waterbury Center. But it's not clear if he was onboard.

Officials say the aircraft reported a loss of fuel pressure to controllers shortly before it crashed.

Hebert has crashed his plane twice in Vermont; once near the Morrisville airport back in 2009, and in 2007 his small plane went down in Fairfax.

This is sad to hear. Unfortunately, this man didn't ever catch a clue that his mail-order-do-it-yourself-plane-in-a-box, was not safe (after crashing it twice in Vt) and now two people have died in the same plane, perhaps Hebert himself, since it only seats two.

I think this is likely the tragic end of it. He seems to have a two year crash record, but if he managed to kill himself...even if he wasn't piloting the plane, maybe the fact that two people (friends?) lost their lives will be a sobering enough event to get this man to see that this equipment is not safe.

Any other word on it Henry?

I don't think it was the same plane.  The one that crashed in Fairfax I believe was a Kitfox, the one in NC was a Lancair.  Both are home built types of airplanes though.

PETER J. HEBERT DMD

STOWE/WATERBURY - Peter J. Hebert DMD, 52, of Stowe and most recently of Waterbury Center, passed away unexpectedly in Jacksonville, N.C., while piloting his personal aircraft. Born in Manchester, Conn., on April 9, 1959, he was the son of Jean-Louis Hebert and the late Pauline (Coulombe) Hebert. Peter was formerly married to Jeanne M. Grant for 26 years and has two daughters, Kristin M. Hebert and Allison J. Hebert. Peter was a 1977 graduate of Manchester (Conn.) High School and continued his education at Boston University, graduating in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. He then enrolled at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and graduated in 1985 as a Doctor of Dental Medicine. Peter began his practice with his father in Manchester, Conn., which spanned 13 years, before moving to Vermont where he has practiced in Waterbury since 1997.

He was an active member of the Waterbury and Stowe communities and a participant in the Vermont Dental Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association. Peter had a true zest for life and lived every second to the fullest. If not on the mountain skiing, he could be seen in the air flying over the green mountains. Peter had many passions. Along with being an avid skier and aviator, he loved to bicycle on road and off, hike and backpack the world's mountains and ride his motorcycle. He is fondly remembered by his family as a Renaissance man; he was industrious and a true craftsman in everything that he approached. An experienced aviator for over 25 years, Peter not only loved to fly but he also enjoyed building his own planes. Peter's positive attitude was contagious. A believer in cutting edge dentistry, he brought his abilities, his knowledge and his compassion to his patients who in turn have expressed their gratitude and appreciation. Peter is survived by Jeanne Grant Hebert of Stowe; two daughters, Kristin M. Hebert of Bellingham, Wash., and Allison J. Hebert of Stowe; his father, Jean-Louis Hebert, DDS of Milwaukee Wis.; a sister, Suzanne McNeill and her husband, Matthew, of Whitefish Bay Wis.; a brother, Paul Hebert and his wife, Sharon, of Manchester, Conn.; and two nieces, Elizabeth and Jennifer McNeill of Whitefish Bay, Wis. He will be truly missed by the countless lives that he touched. Services will be held from the Stowe (Vt.) Community Church on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 3 p.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to Operation Smile (www.operationsmile.org) or to Doctor's Without Borders (www.doctorswith outborders.org). To send online condolences please visit www.perkinsparker.com and Facebook. Assisting the family is the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury.
