For any who may not know, the building at 75 Hunt Street that houses the Fairfax Town Offices is lovingly known as the "White House" to longtime residents.

Bellows Free Academy Fairfax owns the White House and rents it to the Town of Fairfax for $1 annually.

The White House is old and in need of repairs.  The Town agreed to maintain the building.

Recently, a Fire Inspection was done by Vermont Department of Public Safety Division of Fire Safety.

A copy of the inspection results is being e-mailed to Henry.  Check back for more on this subject later.  Click on the links below to see the inspection results Chris Santee e-mailed me.  After the State inspection of the "White House",  We put together a cost break down to address the states issues. This break down only deals with correcting the issues with the building that the State pointed out. This doesn't include any cost to expand the building to meet the Town offices needs.

An engineering report was done on 2007 listing the problems.

In 2011 at Town Meeting, an Article was placed on the ballot for
about 10 acres for about $250,000 for the construction of a new office building.

That was voted down, with "not enough information" being cited
by those who voted no.

In 2012, at Town Meeting, an Article was placed on the ballot for
about 2 acres of land and a building for about $1.3M.

That too was voted down, with "too expensive" being cited
by those who voted no.

Currently, a Town Office Committee is working on the project.
The committee is quite diverse and all volunteer.

The committee is exploring All Options !!!

As a Fletcher resident, I have no skin in this game, but how did the price go up by more than a million dollars in a year?

In response : It states that the $250,000 was for land only, the other includes a building.

Hi Henry,

Someone asked how the price went from $250,000. in  2011 to $1,3000,000 in 2012.  The 2011 price was land only.  The 2012 price was land, and building, as well as site work, sewer, water, road, driveway, parking lot, landscaping, moving, etc.
