FLETCHER - An assault situation here ended in a standoff with police and the eventual arrest of the offender Saturday night.
Vermont State Police was notified at about 8:52 p.m. of a disturbance on Fairfield Road. It was believed that an intoxicated male had discharged a firearm inside the home. The complainant's mother was still in the home with the man. Shortly after arriving, troopers determined that the woman, was able to leave the home and had gone to a safe location.

The location of the 57 year old man, of Fletcher, was initially unknown, but police made contact with him in the woods near the home. He was noncompliant with verbal orders at flrst. He was taken into custody after a 35-minute standoff.

He was arrested for second degree aggravated domestic assault and reckless endangerment, held without ball at Northwest State Correctional Facility. He was due to appear in court today on Monday, July 30, 2012
at 1 p.m.
