The nearest thing to a list of veterans we have here in Fairfax is the listing used for those who have died and are buried here.  I believe that listing is in the Town Office and is used to place flags on the graves each memorial day.  Judge Van Benthysen had told me he was going to try and get me a list, but he moved away before it happened.  Such a list of those living would require quite a bit of maintenance, I would think, as everybody who moves in to town would have to indicate if they were a veteran and then be taken off the list when and if they left.  There are placques at the school for alumni of BFA who have died, but none for those still living.

Greg Hartman - served in the 80s
Allen Simoneau - Vietnam war
Dave Day - Vietnam War
Brent Simoneau - Iraq and Afghanistan 1 tour in each
Don Demar - Iraq and Afghanistan 1 tour each
Joshua Langelier - Iraq 2 tours
Steve Hensel - Iraq 1 tour
Jordan Paquette - Iraq 1 tour
Jacob Langelier - Afghanistan 1 tour
Sam Graves - Afghanistan 1 tour
Joe Jacobson - Iraq 1 tour

Those are a few I know, I'm sure there are many more

A veteran is someone who, at one
point in his life, wrote a blank check
made payable to 'The United States of
America ' for an amount of 'up to and including My life.'

Was sent the following note to post along with this:

Henry,

Just read the posts on Veterans in Fairfax and since I'm not logged into your site, thought I would add that John Ellsworth was in Vietnam.

Plus there are a lot of Air Guard in Fairfax that have been in Iraq. They go for a shorter time than the Army Guard, but our daughter Joanne has been there 2x.

Richard Warren (Viet Nam) should be able to provide some more help getting names together.
This is a great start.

Also    John Rooney , Jim Brown , Paul Burleson , John Garrett  .   The WW 11 vets have mostly passed on , but as far as I know , Chuck Bellows ( Bomber Pilot & Joyce McCuin's brother ) is still alive.

Larry and Bud Parsons were in the military at one time.
From the Class of 1978, Jim Rooney, Dan Gross, and I believe Mark Keefe all served in the military.
Larry Leach used to tell stories about being in the Azores(sp?).

As far as non-Fairfax natives but were residents, I believe Merle Peranteau was in Vietnam. The late John Kuhn retired from the Air Force.
My grandfather, Karl Gerstenberg(Mom's father) was in the cavalry down in Texas and was a Leut. during WWI in France.

This is very interesting to know.  God bless each and every one of them with us today or who has passed on.  My brother spent a year in Vietnam .  Was very hard on the family.

My husband Tom Volz -- U.S.Army in the 80's, U.S Army Special Forces in the early 90's, plus countless other family members both past and present. I think our military are true American heroes.
