Now that we've had a couple of weeks with the new windmills up and running, I'm wondering what folks think about the visual impact.

Beautiful?  Ugly?  Somewhere in between?

In my opinion, they aren't beautiful, nor are they ugly. They're just 'there', sort of like telephone poles alongside the roads. Not a big deal.

They're just there, though the blinking red lights on the horizon industrialize our otherwise rural countryside views.  I have questions though: why are some on some of the time?  Why are some off? How are they controlled?  It seems to me that their speed doesn't vary.  Of course, I don't watch 24/7. Does it vary?

I don't really know why they don't all turn all the time, but it's only been a week or so since they've been operational and I wouldn't be surprised if they are still working on details, tweaking the system, etc.  Sometimes one stops for a short time, then goes again.  Seems like if everything is working properly they would all be turning together.

They do vary in their speed, but not as much as the wind does.  I presume there's some sot of upper limit to the speed.

(I'm not a windmill guy, I'm just guessing)

Honestly, they don't bother me at all.  I will take a windmill over living in a big city, all the smog and such anyday.

Ugly. I'm in favor of windmills in the ocean and solar farms on unused farm land away from scenic areas. People visit New England for the scenery, not windmills on top of beautiful mountains.

After all the housing development in my view, the windmills simply seem inevitable.  Would anyone prefer more smog and acid rain? Maybe  a nice new nuclear plant?
The turbines are just another result of  population growth and  of our addiction to limitless electric energy.
'Couldn't help but notice cell towers stuck all along the landscape on a recent trip to Arkansas.
Natural ridgelines?  Maybe up in Alaska.

I hate them! I get a Birdseye view of them .....and they look terrible...it used to be a beautiful view of the mountain....now it looks like
Some alien gathering standing guard ( I must have watched too many alien movies as a child)
The blinking red lights at night don't help........what a shame to destroy the natural view. Who is benefitting from these things?

PS...Hate them!

I personally don't mind them.  I see them every morning and every afternoon.  Its part of the day and age we live in now, it is what it is, like cell towers.  The people that don't like them what would you rather have?  Nuclear plants possibly damaging our environment?  Damming up the rivers and damaging the natural spawn of thousands of fish annually?  Solar panel farms?  Or continuing to be completely reliant on out of state/country power ex. HydroQuebec?

Do I love them? No
Do I hate them? No

I guess I just except them for what they are.

x2 well put shady.  At first I would cringe at the sight every time I saw them but upon considering the alternatives - which are even more cringe-worthy - I've reached acceptance..

I dunno... Now that I've created a simulation of what Georgia Mountain would look like with cooling towers, I think I'd like to see that... Think of the jobs it could create! I mean other than a couple towers sticking above the ridgeline, I'm sure all the other infrastructure could be submerged inside the mountain. I mean, hey all they're emitting is a little steam- that's no worse than a sugarhouse, right? So basically I think they'd fit right in...

The unfortunate truth is that we are a nation of energy-dependent people.  Anyone that continues to use energy has no right to complain about the companies that generate it.

Oh and regarding the windmills, I don't really care either way.

Cheers!
