Well, in this little town of Fairfax, we can almost tell who someone is, at least in some cases, without being close enough to see their faces. For example, in the forenoons you will see a guy walking up Route 104, or back down from the Fairfax Commons and you can be pretty sure it is Mike Cain, stopping occasionally to take a photo, or you can see another guy walking up the same route carrying a briefcase, and that would be Mike Theoret, or you can see another guy meticulously picking up bits of trash and rubbish and dropping it in the dumpster up at the commons and that would be Bernie Gregoire, or you might see another guy out with a small child taking an occasional photo and that might very well be David Shea, and of course there is me, have no idea what the description might be. Now I could name a few other people, but don’t want to get myself in trouble. Last night I was on my way down to the village and out in the cornfield across the way from Jim & Jean Groseclose, was another figure that I didn’t have to see the face to know who it was. He was going back and forth swinging a metal detector, so I went down the road a ways and turned back as I wanted to see if Don Flemming had found any treasures tonight – The only thing he had found was a piece from an old mouth organ down at the other end of the field where he figured there must have been a house. Checked my map and sure enough back in the 1870’s Tuffield Provo appears to have lived there. Don has swept many a field and has come up with some very interesting things, each with a story he remembers:

Lots of work, cleaning and cataloging the many coins found as shown above.
Fairfax bottles, one of 20 Sharpshooter medals issued one particular year and coins that date as far back as 1798 are more of Don's findings.
Bottom center is a Civil War belt buckle which Don almost missed until he accidently saw US imprinted on it.
Jewelry, jewelry and more jewelry and of course just some of the many rings found so far.
The set of oar locks at left was found in the Islands while the small padlock was found just beyond Ralph Ellsworth's in the Boissoneault corn field in an area where a house which had burned once stood.
Bells found in the Boissoneault and McNall corn fields, Buttons, Belt Buckles, Watches & Coins are just some of the items Don brought to the meeting
