Richard A. Howard
Westford - Richard Alger Howard, 71 a lifelong resident of Westford passed away Friday May 4, 2007 at his home in Westford. He was born on April 11, 1936 in Westford, VT son of the late Rolland and Beryl (Alger) Howard. He married the former Hilda Sanderson on September 6, 1958 in Essex Center, VT. He had been employed as a truck driver for over 40 years and most recently with his sons business C. C. Howard & Son. He loved to drive truck and was proud to have taught his children to drive. Richard looked forward to farming his large garden and raising chickens and rabbits. He planted a large garden yearly just to let his friends and family enjoy his hard work and fruits of his labor. Though he never fished much he loved to eat all sorts of fish. He was a loyal Nascar fan and loved watching Jeff Gordon take the checkered flag. He enjoyed following all of the news stations on TV and keeping abreast of the worlds current events. He loved his children immensely as a great “family man”. Richard will be greatly missed by his entire loving family. We miss you and love you dearly Dad and Grandpa.
He is survived by: His wife of 48 years Hilda Howard of Westford, His three sons: Rick Howard & Mark Mayville of Winooski, Christian Howard and wife Sharon of Fairfax and Jonathan Howard of Westford. Three daughters: Carlene Partlow and husband Todd of Swanton, Deborah Manning and husband Kevin of South Hero and Tammy Howard and Mitchell Bunnell of Fairfax. Five Brothers: Edward Howard and wife Gloria of Florida, Ronald Howard and wife Marie of Enosburg Falls, Winfred Howard and wife Phyllis of Alburgh, Frederick Howard and wife Pauline of Westford and Duane Howard and wife Betty of Westford. Fourteen Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren, One brother-in-law Conrad Sanderson and wife Yvonne of South Hero, Four Sister-in-Laws: Doris North of Milton, Juanita Demar of Essex, Lucy Laughlin of Ohio and Norma Mayer of Florida. Three Aunts: Evelyn Whittemore, Dorothy Chandler and Helen Hill and husband Merton. Many nieces, nephews and cousins And His faithful companion “Lady”. He was also predeceased by his grandson Eric Howard on November 16, 2005, One brother in law Clifford Sanderson, Two sisters-in-law, Mary Burt and Valda Stone.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday May 8, 2007 at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 9, 2007 at the United Church of Fairfax at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Plains Cemetery in Westford.
