November 13, 1922 - August 11, 2013


MILTON — Ruth Elizabeth Barrows, 90, died peacefully at her home on Cherry Street on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth was born on Nov. 13, 1922, in Milton, the daughter of the late Gordon Bennett and Florence Azella (Parker) Adams. On June 26, 1945, she married Robert Floyd Barrows in Burlington. For over 37 years, she and Bob managed and operated a dairy farm on East Road in Milton.

She is survived by her children, Bruce Barrows and his wife, Linda, of Georgia, and Kathy Coger and her husband, James “Mac,“ of Milton; her special “third“ son, Peter Whittemore and his wife, Becky, of Washington, DC; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Nancy Barrows Liberty of Fairfax; brother-in-law, Larry Wilcox; sisters-in­law, Rita Rock, Eleanor and Ila Barrows; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her “second“ daughter, “Katie,“ her Jack Russell Terrier.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, on April 20, 2006; son, Brian, on Dec. 6, 2007; brothers, Lyndon and Ken Adams; and sisters, Marion Blow and Virginia Patno.

Ruth’s family wishes to thank Courtney Walsh of the VNA for the kind and compassionate care extended to her and her family during her last week with them.

At Ruth’s request, there will not be any visiting hours or funeral service. Her cremated remains will be buried at a private family ceremony in the Milton Village Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.minorfh.com.
