Yes, it's still bad, but MUCH better than a few weeks ago.  I went South on RT128 on Oct 3rd, and it's a very bumpy dirt road, but do-able in a car.  I timed it- took 12 minutes to get thru the construction zone.  Three separate areas with one lane only and flaggers.  I would still avoid it for the time being.

I have heard from a reliable source that it will not be totally complete until next spring.  It is sounding like the plan is to get it "ready" for winter and finish after the snow is gone.  Can anyone confirm this info?

In the mean time, Woods Hollow, Old Stage, Chapin Rd etc are all in great condition with all the increased traffic.  This time they are also better scenic route too.  Kudos to the Road crews for keeping these "side roads" in such great shape.

I haven't been on that road lately.....I take Old Stage Rd into Essex.....I was at Cody's  (the Irish Pub)  the other day, and someone said the road crew found a 1920's washing machine burried under the road!!!!!  There must be other stuff under there....maybe gold? Haha

Just spoke with FW Whitcomb office & they stated 128 will be fully paved (cold mix) in 3-4 weeks.

I would still avoid until then. It did in a fairly new tire on my truck this weekend.

We tried it Friday - for a dirt/gravel road it's OK... much better than it was few weeks ago.
I sure hope they get hustlin' to finish it.

Hi,
I took 128 North late tonight at 10:30 PM. a few miles of nice paved road...then miles of packed dirt, then miles of rough gravel..shouldn't go faster than 30 mph on that. Your car will definitely get dirty.....I would continue using the alternate routes.

They have done a great job maintaining the Woods Hollow Road during this upgrade of Rte 128.  Took advantage of the nice weather yesterday morning and drove down 128.  Some mighty deep ditches and looks like a good base going in.  Have travelled that road since 1953, until I retired in 1992.  Looks like this ought to last for a while.

Northbound paved from RT 15 to Pettingill Rd. South bound smooth packed dirt from 2010 pavement at ledges to silo then pavement to RT 15. No paving done this week guessing due to temps. Heard rumor they need to finish by the 15th because asphalt plant shuts down?

Doesn't look too promising for this year, but something to look forward to in 2014

I drove it last night from Essex to Fairfax and did not have a problem.  Did notice in the South lane that it did not look as good as North lane.  Thought it was much better compared to August though.

is there at least payment on all of it yet?  really getting tired of the interstate... but actually like seeing what color my car is without the dirt layer....

It's not bad now.
I've been traveling it the past few days. Headed towards Essex, they have about 3 miles yet to pave but it is relatively smooth, slthough very dusty. Headed towards Fairfax, there is about 2 miles yet to pave, again smooth but dusty. The paving machines were on it this morning at 0700. It's looking up!!!!
