On my way to St. Albans i stopped and spoke with DJ and Pat. Pat had just unloaded the sand from the back of the truck with the backhoe. They were both waiting for a wrecker to show up to pull the truck out. They had considered pulling it out themselves but decided to hire a wrecker vs damaging the truck. According to DJ and Pat the visibility this morning was next to nothing. The backup driver Stan was driving the truck that you see off the road. This particular part of Wagner Rd is very narrow and has deep ditches. He had trouble seeing the road with the blowing snow and wind, his right front wheel got close to the edge and it pulled the truck into the ditch. Nobody was hurt and the truck is ok. Stuff like this happens.

Just a quick question, regardless of who you are, if you are having trouble seeing, would that not be a good time to take a break?

My father worked for the town for almost 20 years and was road foreman for quite a few before he died. He plowed Wagner Road/ Wagner Hill and it was one of the few roads that made him nervous. He always knew that one slight oversteer and he would be off the road. I remember hearing him on the scanner...he would always open his mike to the other guys just in case he had an accident.
I'm so glad the driver wasn't injured. As Dave said, these things happen. Sounds like the truck will be okay, too.

The road crew does a fantastic job keeping our roads clear, it amazes me that this doesn't happen more often. You don't realize how much our roads turn, dip, drop off, and climb until you are the first vehicle on them before they are plowed.

Unfortunately 7F24 I disagree with your statement about our road crew keeping our roads up! Our road has not seen a plow in 20 hours and we have snow drifts big enough that we can not meet a car coming the opposite way!! Furthermore there were school buses out this morning and I know that there were other roads with similar conditions. I am very disappointed with our road crew this winter.

Have you called the Town Clerk's office and let them know about the drifts?

Does anyone know how many miles of road the crew has to take care of?

It shouldnt matter how many miles the road crew has to take care of. i'm not knocking anyone here but road clearing is a safety issue. If we are unable to keep up with the demands with one truck than we need to ok a second truck or third or so on to make sure roads are safe. I personally havent had much of an issue but i live right in town. I feel for the folks outside of town and also our emergency responders such as yourself who when called have to go no matter what the conditions are...
