Hello Fellow FBPA Members,
My name is Brenda Kerr and I am in the process of organizing a Lamoille River Sweep in Fairfax.

Our new Fairfax Park and Bike Path are incredible. Last week we decided to wade in the river pretty much the length of the path and were amazed by the amount of junk down there.  We found a bike, a lawn mower, a car seat, loads of car pieces and parts and numerous tires.  There are many other smaller items in there as well.  Hence the real need for a River Sweep.

I am targeting July 22nd as river clean-up day.  Now before this rain, the river was pretty low and loads of stuff was visible and easy to get to.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and the river level will recede before the 22nd to allow us the best possible access to the junk.
Carol Lizotte from the Park & Rec department will be sure the gate is open so we can access the area with trucks.  Her department has also agreed to pay for the cost of the tire recycling.

I am looking for volunteers who don't mind getting a little wet.  We will also need at least 2 trucks to haul the stuff away.  We'll recycle everything we can.  I am looking into the best way to sort the stuff and get it to the proper place for either recycling or disposal.  I am open to any ideas, feedback, or information that any of you may have.

My hope is that the Fairfax Business & Professional Association can pull together to get this job done quickly and efficiently.  Please let me know if you will be able to help out on the 22nd, if you have any friends & family that will be joining you and if you have a truck available for us to use.

Thanks so much,
Brenda

Just wanted to let everyone know that you don't have to be a member of the FBPA to help clean up the river on July 22nd.  I just needed to start someplace and the FBPA was logical.  Everyone and anyone is more than welcome.  Just give me a call or send me an email so I know how to coordinate our efforts most efficiently.  849-6193 or 310-4427 or happy@hikeu.com

Sounds like a great project!  I work with a local metal recycling hauler.  We used to provide a metal recycling dumpster at the town garage.  I would be happy to provide a dumpster for this event.  We would provide an open top dumpster and transportation.   Give me a call if this would be of interest to you.
