Car Plunges Into River Near Dan & Nancy Gross Residence On River Road

Hi All,

A few pictures of the car that dove over the bank into the river near the Dan & Nancy Gross Residence around noon today:


Justin Hayes of FXFD checks out the area where the car went over the bank


Even though Fire & Rescue were there, I didn't stand too close to the steep bank to take the photo of the car in the river
Individual (s) got out and walked down a ways to climb out of the river, no one was hurt apparently

Sherriff's Department arrived on the scene shortly


The Rainville's arrived and were on their way back to check with their Dad to see if he thought they could handle the job.

Justin suspected they might call in Milton divers to help - Meanwhile this is a preliminary report

I drove that road Wednesday the 4th.  FXFD, will be spending time there, there will be many crashes and such with all that new pavement.

Nancy Gross sent me these recovery shots -- Many thanks Nancy, I wish I had been there, but Justin had told me he thought it would be a long wait.  I think you got some better shots than I would have as that was a pretty steep bank and I don't trust my balance that much:

Channel 3 news reported tonight, with photos by David St. Pierre:

Rescue crews had to pull a man and his car from the Lamoille River early this afternoon. Police say the man was driving too fast around a corner on the River Road in Fairfax when he lost control of his vehicle and ended up going over a 15-foot embankment into the river. The man was able to get out of the vehicle and call for help from the roof of the car. Rescue crews were able to pull him safely to shore. He was not injured.

There was a second accident on Route 128 in Fairfax around 5 p.m.  It was right at supper time, so I did not go down.  Channel 3 news reported last night on the 11 p.m. news that there was another accident in Fairfax tonight-- that police say was caused by recent storms. A tree fell across Route 128-- right in front of a car. The driver couldn't avoid it-- and ended up going over it-- and right over a bank. The two people inside were shaken-- but O-K. It was NOT stormy when the tree went down-- but police say it appeared it had been weakened by all the recent severe weather.

From what I could see in the picture, it looked like it was just a ways down Route 128.  David St. Pierre may have some pictures of both accidents in today's St. Albans Messenger along with more details.
