Warren Stephen Blodgett
January 12, 1924 - August 27, 2014Fairfax: Warren Stephen Blodgett, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2014, with family at his side. He was born to Dean Blodgett and Amy Goodspeed Blodgett on January 12, 1924, in Cabot, Vermont.
He spent his childhood working a dairy farm in South Montgomery, Vermont. After completing high school at BFA in Fairfax at the age of 15, he went to Vermont Junior College in Montpelier before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1941. He was trained as a fighter pilot and fought in the 8th Air Force based in England during World War II. Upon returning, he married his childhood sweetheart, Agatha Keelan of Montgomery in 1946. He remained in the Air Force and had a distinguished career as a fighter pilot for 27 years, then followed a 15 year career as a corporate pilot before retiring to Montgomery to be a gentleman farmer in 1984.
He is survived by his four children, Stephen Blodgett, 67, of Ponderosa, New Mexico; Daniel Blodgett, 65, of Coarsegold, California; Amy Blodgett, 62, of Oakhurst, California and Rebecca Blodgett Brush, 59, of Fairfax, Vermont. He was predeceased by his steadfast wife of 66 years, Agatha, in 2012. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Ethan, Eva and Adam, as well as a sister and multiple nieces and nephews.
His passions were flying, trout fishing, deer hunting, reading and studying World War II history. He excelled at all of them. He loved the natural wonders of Vermont and also enjoyed exploring all the new placed he saw while traveling in the service. He was dedicated to his family and saw to it that all around him received a college education, which he saw as a priority. He was a living example of honesty, integrity, hard work and generosity. All who knew him will remember his as a pillar of strength and character.
