Alan G Barkyoumb, Fairfax, 69, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 surrounded by his beloved family. Alan was born on June 3, 1946 in St. Albans, the son of Ramona (Gagne) Barkyoumb and the late Gordon Barkyoumb. As a long time resident of Fairfax, he will be remembered as a man of great principle and strong work ethic but it’s his compassionate heart that will be remembered most. For 30 years he farmed and worked the land he loved. After retirement, as an avid outdoorsman, he was often found in the woods. He loved to hunt and fish. His passion was sugaring where he could spend days, walking and reflecting in the woods as he prepared for the upcoming sugaring season. He enjoyed the game of baseball and the sport of boxing. He was skilled in the art of conversation, always willing to lend an ear or offer advice to all of those who reached out.

Alan is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Judy Barkyoumb of Fairfax, his mother Ramona Barkyoumb of Hopkinton, MA, daughters Tammy Retalic and husband David of Framingham, MA, Lori Barkyoumb and partner Jeff Adams of Georgia, Tina Levick and husband Peter of Fairfax, Melissa Allard of Fairfax, Beth Allard of Fairfax, and son Bradley Beyor and partner Renee Aube of Swanton. He was predeceased by his son Shawn. He is also survived by his sisters Eileen McGarry and husband Bob of St. Albans, and Diane Tappan and husband Doug of Hopkinton, MA. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren Tyler and Brendan Retalic, Megan and Nathan Levick, Kalia, Shane, Holleyann, and Lane Dearmin, Drew, Machia, Meah Dearmin, and Lexus Barkyoumb, along with his mother-in-law Teresa Aylward, brother-in-law Lester Aylward, sister-in-law Carol St. Pierre and husband Tom, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. And lets not forget his 12 furry barn cats!

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday December 22, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at A W Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, St. Albans with Reverend Bill Simmons officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Carroll Hill Cemetery in Fairfax. Memorial contributions in Alan’s memory may be made payable to Tammy Retalic, to support the establishment of the Alan G. Barkyoumb Agricultural and Forestry Scholarship Fund. Checks may be sent to 124 Edmands Road, Framingham, MA 01701. The family also invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting www.awrfh.com
