Obituary for Hazel M. Bruso

Fairfax - Hazel M. Bruso, 92, a resident of Brick Church Road died on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Northwestern Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Hazel was born in Westminster, VT on July 9, 1923, the daughter of C. Fred and Bernadette (Boudreau) Burnor. On December 18, 1942, she married Alton Bruso with whom she spent the next 71 years, until his death in October of 2014.

Hazel was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, making cookies, cakes and “special fudge”. You were always welcome at Hazel’s table. She enjoyed her flowers in the wheelbarrow and the “tub” across the road. One of her other enjoyments was going with Alton to card parties of “500” and having friends over for a game or two, hoping to have the Joker in her hand. She also enjoyed being around her grandchildren whether climbing in the trees or reading a book.

Hazel is survived by her three children; Alton Jr. and Lorraine of Alburgh, Donna and Dick Wood of Bennington and Beverly Bruso of Fairfax and her friend Harley Rushford. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Michael and Michele Bruso of Fairfax, Tammy and Aaron Boissoneault of Johnson, Lori and Jeff Spooner of Essex and Todd and Jen and Corey and Ben all of Bennington; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Alton, Hazel was predeceased by her parents and her three siblings; her brother, Leon and two sisters, Helen and Leona.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 4:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street in St. Albans with Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Bruso Family lot at Greenwood Cemetery in St. Albans. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478. Messages of condolence may be sent to Hazel’s family at www.healdfuneralhome.com
