Hi All,
I just picked up my copy of The Fairfax Breeze and on Page 2 was a very well written statement/policy that Editor of The Fairfax Breeze Rick Burnham wrote. I have attempted to do this on my own web site and congratulate Rick Burnham on taking this approach. You are off to a great start Rick:
Why you won't read about it in The Breeze
By Rick Burnham
Editor, The Fairfax Breeze
From time to time, an event with devastating impact will take place in the community, and the community suffers because of it. The facts surrounding the event may not be fully disclosed, but the parties involved, and the community as a whole, suffers nonetheless.
Most media outlets, if not all, feel it to be absolute responsibility to report on these events. Such stories inform the reader of the situation and relate how the facts pertain to him or her. Media plays an important role to the community in this regard, one that cannot be taken lightly.
Because there are enough quality and reputable media sources available to do this for the Fairfax Community, The Fairfax Breeze will more often than not stay away from such stories. It is doubtful that we could uncover any information that is not being presented elsewhere.
More importantly, further reporting of the facts already known would do little more than drag the parties involved - and the community as a whole - through the mud.
For these reasons, we will pass.[/b]
