Claire Lazzaro
(August 12, 1933 - May 11, 2017)

Stowe-Claire Maria Jeannette Lazzaro, 83, of Stowe died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 11, 2017. She was born at home in Corona, New York, August 12, 1933, daughter of Louis Jeannette and Marie Glosel. She attended Newton High School in New York and Hunter College, New York.

Claire spent most of her life dedicated to the Catholic Church. She served as a coordinator for the St. Luke’s Annual Turkey Dinner serving 600 people in one day for over eight years. Claire also was instrumental in setting up the Catechetical program for elementary students at St. Luke’s Parish for over a decade. She was a daily communicant for 50 years. Claire also worked as a substitute teacher for both parochial and Vermont state schools. In addition, Claire supported community service by advocating for a ski program for grades K-12 at Bellows Free Academy, Fairfax, Vermont.

Claire was a talented landscape and seascape artist painting scenes of Vermont and Boca Grande, Florida. She was a member of the Boca Grande Art Alliance Community. Over the years, Claire donated many of her oil paintings to the Carmelite Monastery in Barre, Vermont.

Claire was an active alpine skier for many years. In her earlier years, Claire was an ice skate racer, and qualified as a Silver Skater for Olympic team member trials in the World’s Fair, New York.

Claire lived in five residences over her life of which she designed four of the homes. The residences included College Point, New York, Westford, Vermont, Stowe, Vermont and Boca Grande, Florida and Placida, Florida.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Lazzaro and three children: Maria Kowalchyk-DeVito and husband, Giancarlo of Stowe; Joseph Lazzaro and wife, Sheila of Venice, Florida; and Lawrence Lazzaro and wife, Alydia of Milton, Vermont and three grandchildren, Laura, Angela and Daysi Anna.

Claire always wore a smile and had sincere love of God and family. She was kind, patient, sincere, practiced humility and had great integrity and an overall good heart. She was an outstanding mother and wife. I love you forever Claire.

In lieu of flowers, please offer prayers for the suffering souls in purgatory.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe. Interment will follow in Riverbank Cemetery. Following interment a reception will be held at Trattoria La Festa, 4080 Mountain Road in Stowe.

Mrs. Lazzaro was a terrific CCD Teacher.  I had her several years and she had such a wonderful way with all of us kids.  We were all her "Little Angels". May she rest in peace. ~Mary Kay Raymond
