Hannaford recalls ground beef

Hannaford Supermarkets has announced that it is recalling all ground beef products purchased in Hannaford stores with use or freeze by dates of Oct. 11 through Oct. 31.

The recall extends to Century Farms ground beef products purchased in Hannaford stores with use or freeze by dates of Oct. 11 through Nov. 3.

The product is part of the Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. voluntary recall of about 1 million pounds of ground beef products that might be contaminated with E. coli.

"While Cargill has informed us that there have been no reported illnesses from the product, our policy is to err on the side of caution when food safety is involved," said Hannaford spokesperson Caren Epstein.

A way to ensure that potentially harmful bacteria is killed is to cook all ground beef to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, said Epstein.

Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Cargill's toll-free hotline at 877-455-1034. For questions regarding Hannaford's refund policy, contact the Hannaford Customer Information Center at 800-213-9040.

Well, I was going to have some hamburgers last night and mentioned to me, she wondered if we had bought any hamburg between October 11th and November 3rd - Well, I'm sure we did, however when I went to the freezer to check - (I wouldn't have known when I had bought it, because I always make it into patties and wrap it in cellophane), I had none in the freezer, so we must have eaten it - Oh well, I am sure the E-Coli would have kicked in by now and I feel fine.

The following comment was put up in the Free Press article:

"There's this argument that Vermonters can't enjoy locally produced meat and poultry because it isn't inspected properly. Do we really trust the crap that sent to Vermont from who knows where? Time to really consider anything you put in your mouth because somebody, somewhere, is screwing up."

We have two packages of frozen hamburg and one package of frozen pre-made patties which we have to take back. I called the number and they said we can take it back to any Hannafords for a refund.

Hi Mike,

Well, one thing about Hannafords - you will get double your money back which is the Hannaford Quality Guarantee.

This might just be your lucky day - Will be interested in hearing how you make out when you bring it back.

Unless Margie does it during the week, it will be this weekend.
Double our money back?
We'll see.
