The Old Timers had their own method of weather forecasting and I know my Dad had some method he used which had to do with Ash Wednesday and the days following which I think they call Ember Days.  I tried Googling Ash Wednesday Weather Predictions and came up with one web site that mentioned this method of predicting weather.  My Dad always felt this was very accurate and strangely enough one of the web sites I went on also said the method was very accurate.  Now as I look at the weather today, things don't look good - I'm sure my Dad would have had a great forecast based on today's weather and some of the following days as it looks like we will be getting another storm this weekend based on the following weather forecast:

A potent storm system will bring winter weather back to the North Country with a vengeance.  A wintry mix today will turn to all snow by the end of the day.  The snow will continue tonight into Thursday morning before it finally tapers off.

A *WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY* is in effect for our northern counties, and a *WINTER STORM WARNING* for our central and southern counties until 10 AM Thursday.

4-8" of snow will accumulate in the Advisory areas of the north.  6-12" of snow will pile up in the Warning areas of our central and southern sections.

Another round of snow will move in on Saturday and linger into Sunday morning, when a blast of Arctic air will come barreling in.

+ 5-day Forecast
Wed: Hi 33 F Lo 19 F Snow north; Rain, sleet, snow south; changing to all snow late & overnight
Thu: Hi 24 F Lo 18 F Snow tapering to snow showers; 4-8" north: 6-12" south
Fri: Hi 31 F Lo 21 F Mostly cloudy; chance for snow showers
Sat: Hi 32 F Lo 18 F Snow developing
Sun: Hi 27 F Lo 2 F Snow showers; turning windy, cold

Burlington Motorist apparently had quite a time this morning with Colchester Avenue closed and the streets not plowed.  My barber works 2 1/2 days a week and I am waiting for a good day when he is open to get my hair cut - It is now curling down over my ears, but fortunately I don't have that problem on the top of my head - I may just have to comb it upwards over the top of my head if I don't get there before long - Looks like Friday might be the day for the haircut the way things look now.  Meanwhile, I went out to get the Free Press and that has been about the extent of my outdoor activity on this snowy Ash Wednesday.

Alison Redlich of the Burlington Free Press took some photos in Burlington this morning of the traffic and the problems.  You can click on the following link to view if you wish:

Snow seems to have stopped up here on the Fletcher Road and it would appear that we got between 4 & 5 inches of snow - This may be it for us, I hope, I hope, I hope!!!
