Bystanders told me that a car headed North toward St. Albans in front of Nan's Mobil was hit by a car coming out of Nan's which then made the car swerve into the apartment building owned by Marlene Karr across the street.

Shown below, Marlene Karr, Owner of the building and her Father Doug Stewart wait to close up the hole left in the building until Greg Hartman arrives for an estimate.

In the photo below, a young man was sitting in front of the window in an overstuffed chair and escaped injury

I have made some corrections to the captions to these photos.  I did not identify the young boy or his mother who rent the apartment in the building owned by Marlene Karr.  Original captions may have given you the impression that the young boy belonged to Marlene Karr.  The St. Albans Messenger may have more information on the accident this afternoon.  I try to be cautious as I don't always understand things right.

If I can find the newpaper clipping, I will scan it of the accident my Dad had in the same place back in the 1960s.  He was driving out of the gas station and when he was almost in the lane headed South was broadsided by a big log truck that pretty much cut the back of the car off just behind the front seat.  Dad was not injured, however, he did bend the steering wheel kind of in a v-shape.  It was unbelievable to see the car and Dad not even injured.  We all thanked our lucky stars.  I know I have the newspaper clipping someplace, however it is probably pretty faded by now after over 40 years.

I know that past owners have tried with great difficult to prevent people from parking parrallel with the road so that when people try to drive out they can see up and down the road, but nobody has had any success at getting customers to do that.
