Richard J. “Mick” Rooney

Cambridge - Richard James “Mick” Rooney, 67 died at his home on Thursday April 17, 2008 following a heroic battle with cancer.  He was born in Burlington September 12, 1940 son of the late Hilary and Madeline (Fletcher) Rooney.  He worked for many years for the Town of Cambridge and in semi-retirement, mowed roadsides and worked on the Boyden Farm in Cambridge.

Mick enjoyed the summer sun, his yearly trips to Florida with his wife Nancy and special friends Henry and Linda Palmer and spending time with his family and friends.  Mick was always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Nancy (Kinney) Rooney, two daughters Pam Fuller and her husband Mike and Carmen Fuller and her companion Chad Heald.  Two granddaughters Amanda and Heidi Fuller, four sisters; Alberta Harrington, Barbara Warren and husband Martin, Lee Hubbard and husband Richard, and Sandy Bowen.  His mother-in-law Eleanor Maynard and his brother-in-law Jim Kinney and wife Martha.  Also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Nolan and brother-in-law John Young.

His battle was not fought alone thanks to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network, the special staff at hematology oncology at FAHC, Lamoille Home Health and Hospice and the help of friends and relatives such as special nephews Kevin and Eli Nolan.

There will be no visiting hours at Mick’s request.  A graveside memorial service with inurnment will be held in Binghamville Cemetery, Fletcher on Tuesday April 22, 2008 at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mick’s memory to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network P.O. Box 38, Lake Elmore, VT 05657 or to Lamoille Home Health and Hospice 59 Far Ave., Morrisville, VT 05661.  Arrangements are by John D. Workman, A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St. Fairfax, VT 05454.
