WENDELL LAWRENCE CHERRIER

WINDSOR, Vt. - Wendell Lawrence Cherrier, 75, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital & Health Center in Windsor.

He was born Feb. 20, 1933. in Fairfax, Vt., son of Lawrence A. and Lorena M. (Bennett) Cherrier.

He attended school in Windsor. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Nancy Checkering on July 2, 1960, in Brattleboro, and they were later divorced.

Mr. Cherrier was employed as a LPN  at the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, N.H. for 10 years, and later at the Dartmouth College  Infirmary for 35 years before retiring in 2003.

He enjoyed gardening and vacationing at the ocean. He loved his horse and dogs. His partner, Steven Nott, predeceased him in 1990.

Surviving family members include two sons: David Cherrier of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Dale Cherrier of Greenville, N.C.; one brother, Wayne Cherrier of East Topsham, Maine; two sisters: Doris Wareham of Cove, Ore., and Aldean Murphy of Exeland, Wis.; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held today, May 30, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, with Reverend Ken White officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Norwich, Vt., on Saturday at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route 10, Enfield. N.H. 03748.
