Hi All,

I could link Mike Cain's picture here from his web site, but feel it is important you take a stroll over and see what he did - I have no idea how you take a picture of lightning, unless it is by instinct.  I can't even get a picture of the racers finishing here at the Egg Run, I usually end up getting the back of their heads after they have passed the finish line.  Check Mike's Photo of lightning he took last night on his web site by clicking on the following link:

I simply stand there holding the camera. I have my finger on the shutter button, holding it halfway down, so the camera has already focused, then finish pushing the button when you see lightning. You have to be quick, or lucky to get a bolt that comes down and flashes for over a second, like that bolt did.
I had the camera at 4megapixals, so the cropped version was clear as well. And I didn't move the camera when I took the picture.
I'm just crediting dumb luck.

Thanks, everyone! The summer's young. I'm sure we'll have other storms. Maybe lightning will strike twice and I get another shot.
Or get struck by lightning myself. That would suck.

What a great picture Mike!  I just wanted to add that you weren't out there taking pictures alone.  I too stood on my back deck trying to get a decent shot the storm.

Hi cmt,

If you got any good pictures of the storm, send them on to me and I will be glad to post them - My Gallery is down right now, but will put them up here on the forum and give you credit.
