J. Douglas Webb FAIRFAX — J. Douglas Webb, 86, a lifelong resident of Fairfax, passed away in Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans on Monday, June 16, 2008. Doug was born on May 20, 1922, in Fairfax, Vt., son of the late Samuel and Bertha (Brooks) Webb. He was a graduate of BFA in Fairfax, Class of 1940 and the Vermont Agricultural School. He married the former Nellie Burnor on Sept. 6, 1948, who predeceased him in March of 2003.
Doug was a proud farmer and sugarmaker operating Maplewood Dairy Farm in Buck Hollow for many years. He was involved in many civic and agricultural organizations including: Fairfax Selectboard, Civil Board, Justice of the Peace, director and past president of Vermont Electric Co-op, Franklin County Maple Co-Op, Vermont Maple Festival, Franklin County Field Days, director and past president of the former Milton Dairy Co-op and American Dairy Association of Vermont. He was inducted into the Vermont Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2007; a proud recipient of the 2005 lifetime achievement award from the Vermont League of Cities and Towns. The past president of Milk Promotion Services Inc.; past director, secretary and president of United Dairy Industries Inc.; director Eastern States Exposition, trustee of Fairfax United Methodist Church. And a 60+ year member of the Masonic Lamoille Lodge #6 F&AM.
He is survived by his three children, James Douglas Webb II of Fairfax; his daughter Linda Willmott and husband Dennis and their two children Daniel and Stephanie of Jericho; his son Dale Webb and his children Garrett and Brooke Webb and his wife Krystal Jenness and her three child-ren, Jeremy Laflin and wife Courtney; Melissa and Joshua Laflin of Fairfax; his sister Frena Phillips and husband, Bill, of Westford; close cousins Arthur Webb and wife Margaret; brother- in-law Orman Ovitt; several nieces, nephews and cousins; close friend Bob Straight of South Hero. He was also predeceased by his sister Ivy Ovitt; his brother and sister-in-law, S. William and Marion Webb.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 20, at 1 p.m. in the United Church of Fairfax with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Fairfax Plains Cemetery, Fairfax.
