Charles "Chuck" Sawyer
(August 6, 1917 - July 4, 2008)


RICHFORD – Charles D. “Chuck” Sawyer, age 90, husband of the late Hortance “Tenny” Sawyer passed away Friday July 4, 2008 at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.
Chuck was born in St. Albans on August 6, 1917 the son of the late, Clarence & Mae (Sargent) Sawyer.

Chuck had been a resident of Our Lady of the Meadows for the past 2 years and was also a resident of Ave Maria in Richford from 1992 to 2006. Chuck had a long career in education highlighted by tenures as superintendent of the outlying schools of Montpelier, Principal at BFA Fairfax where he was also the Girls Basketball Coach and refereed football games, and finally retiring in 1982 as the Principal of the Kelly Junior High School in Norwich, CT. at which point they moved to Derry, NH. Chuck & Tenny loved to spend their summers at their camp on Lake Carmi in Franklin and was a former member and treasurer of the Lake Carmi Campers Association.

Chuck loved to read, and play bridge. He also loved to watch & referee football and helped out with the New York Giants summer camp in Burlington. He was a former member of the Rotary.

He is survived by his daughter, Jane Curtis of Manchester, NH; granddaughter and granddaughter-in-law, Natashua Muse & Monique Flambures of San Francisco, CA; brothers, Robert Sawyer of Denver, CO, and David Sawyer and his wife Chris of Norwich, CT; sister, Margaret Flanagan of Washington, DC; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Hortance “Tenny” (St. Francis) Sawyer on October 3, 1997; a brother, John Sawyer; a sister and her husband, Mary “Betty” & Francis Donahue.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. Karl Hahr celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery in Franklin. There will be no visiting hours.
