The Town of Fairfax is seeking applicants for the following positions.
These positions can be combined into one full-time position, or kept separate as 2 part-time positions. Vermont Statutory requirements for these positions include; but are not limited to, being a resident of the Town of Fairfax, and being on the Town of Fairfax Voter Checklist.
Town Clerk:
Responsibilities include recording of land record documents and all vital records. Facilitator of elections, dog licensing, marriage licenses, and any other duties described by the Vermont State Statutes for Town Clerks in Vermont.
Proficiency with a computer is a requirement for this position. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with experience in real estate title work.
Town Treasurer:
Responsibilities include ownership of all financial matters for Town funds; including, the BFA Fairfax School District, the Town of Fairfax, and the Fairfax Water and Sewer Departments.
All other duties as described in the Vermont State Statutes for Town Treasurers in Vermont will also be performed. Applicant should have advanced accounting skills including experience in all phases of payroll.
The applicant chosen for this position will serve as the Assistant Town Clerk / Treasurer to learn the procedures, processes, and workings of the Fairfax Town Clerk and Treasurer’s Office.
The goal of this position prior to Town Meeting Day is to receive the knowledge from the current retiring Town Clerk / Treasurer. The successful applicant will be required to submit a petition seeking election for these positions, due at the end of January; and pursue election in March 2009 for either the Town Clerk or Town Treasurer position.
Compensation and benefits will be based on experience and the hours associated with the position.
