People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, co-founders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk.

Had to read the above headline several times to make sure I was reading it correctly - I just can't come up with any words to express my feelings - Are these people for real??

You can read the article below, should you desire to do so -  Three Cheers for Ben & Jerrys Response:

WPTZ has a poll on their website asking if Ben & Jerry should switch from cow's milk to human milk.  The results as of now show that out of 40,679 respondents 83% said no and 17% said yes they should switch to human milk.  Go figure!  I can understand the medical benefits of human milk, but saying it's better for the cow?!  Come on!  I guess they were hard up for a subject to advocate.

I think it is scary that nearly 1 out of 5 respondants to the poll thought that using human breast milk was a good idea....

From a strictly scientific point of view, which our society ALMOST NEVER takes, i can see the benefit.  From the cows point of view, and correct me if i'm wrong - i'm not a farmer, but don't cows NEED to expel their milk at some point.  Maybe it's because we raise/condition them to produce x amoutn daily that if not yielded would create discomfort for the cow, but again - i'm not a farmer.

I can step back and look at the bigger picture here from an existenstialist point of view:

Humans evolve, become the dominant predator on earth.   Being the supreme creatures on this planet, we at some point figured that all that is on this planet is ours for the taking - to do what we want with.  Along with higher thought came the ability to step outside conventional thought for some - and this is where we're starting to realize that we've been more than a little irresponsible throughout our evolution.  At first, strictly do to a lack of intelligence, and then later do to complacency, laziness, and the will to make more money.  At this point, there is no global sense of responsibility.  Global warming is pushing us all to attaining at least a minimal level of global awareness and responsiblity, but we're a long way off from respecting this world as global entity.  I fear by the time we do, it'll be a bad achapter in Humna existence - perhaps too late for us to fix.

BACk to the story - gotta love democracy - for better or worse.  Put a vote out there, and popular thought of the time will prevail i guess.

"Conservatives see any progress outside of what they approve of as the 'liberal agenda'.  Apparently no one told them they and what they think aren't any better than the rest of us"

Imagine if women were being exploited for their breast milk. then the la leche league would be complaining!
