I attended the Joint Fiscal Committee meeting last week in Montpelier. Among other topics, the Committee discussed and approved funding for Food and Fuel initiatives. It was good to see that other legislators, especially those with a vote on the Committee, were so supportive of Food and Fuel efforts that are intended to help those who are low income, elderly, disabled and others during this coming winter.  Fairfax' Susie Posner-Jones has been working on these efforts and I have enjoyed meeting with her and others from  Franklin County.

The administration can’t spend  money that hasn't been appropriated by the legislature. The total approved for Food and Fuel was $4,718,171. Several vital programs will receive help, including Meals on Wheels, Button Up Vermont, the Furnace/Boiler replacement program, Home Energy Performance and the Food Stamp program.

The spirit of Vermonters to deal with this is impressive. There is no doubt that legislators understand and are willing to help out where possible.
