A few years ago, a car hit a pole in Georgia and it brought this section of the State to its knees when it broke a fibre optic cable.  Last night a drunk driver hit a pole up in South Alburgh and the pole snapped, bringing down power lines and knocking out electric service to about 3,000 homes in Alburgh, and North Hero.

I understand here in Fairfax that the pole at the end of Buck Hollow Road near Route 104 carries a lot of important lines that if it was hit would also create a little havoc here in the area.

I still am not sure if the situation was ever corrected regarding the fibre optic cable in Georgia, but do know at that time that our local fire & rescue were communicating via radio with the various communities here in the North Country.  I know that one of the firemen in Alburg went to deliver a message to a doctor's house that he was needed at Northwest for a medical situation.

Bottom line, the fibre optic cables are great, however, lots of eggs in one basket.
